What is DC++?

**DC++** stands for **Direct Connect** and is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing protocol. It works by connecting users to centralized **Hubs** (like ours!) where members share their files. It's a structured and community-focused alternative to decentralized networks.

Unlike torrents, DC++ allows for direct chat, user-to-user file transfers, and browsing a user's entire share list, fostering a sense of community and making finding specific files much easier. It's known for being fast and having excellent control over who you connect with.

DC++ is a protocol, so you need a dedicated client program to connect to the hub. We recommend these popular options:

Sharing and Hub Requirements

The DC++ network is built on reciprocity. To download files, you **must** be sharing files.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An active DC++ client (installed).
  • A stable internet connection.
  • A minimum amount of **shared files** (e.g., 5GB or 10GB, check hub motd for specifics).

How to Setup Sharing:

  1. Open your DC++ client's **Settings** > **Sharing** tab.
  2. Click **Add Folder** and select the directory containing the files you wish to share (e.g., movies, music, software).
  3. Ensure the folder is listed and save your settings.
  4. Reconnect to the hub-your share will now be visible to other users.
